Meet Kokie, a neutered, red n white Cocker boy about 4 years old. Life for him has not been so good. He was adopted awhile back by an owner who kept him in the backyard on a chain until NC Animal Control was called. The officer told his family that they couldn't keep him chained up due to NC law. The yard was not fenced, so they put him into a make shift dog shelter with no floor except the dirty ground. It was a small space to live in, so he would whine and cry to get out. He got very little attention, no love and nothing except dirt to lay on. He did get food (not sure what) and sometimes he had water. Luna, a shepherd mix pup was adopted to keep him company to shut him up. The two of them always wanted out because the shelter was small for both to stay in all the time. And, Luna was growing up to be bigger than him. They would bark and whine and the owner didn't like it. With the floor being dirt, they would dig out and roam the neighborhood a lot. A nice neighbor lady with dogs of her own would see them running loose, found out where they lived and would take them home. She could see that they were not being cared for properly so Animal Control was called several times. Each time the dogs were punished and put back into the enclosure. Kokie got out one day before Luna came to live with him and found a home with some nice folks who cared about him and got him neutered. When the owner found out, she made the people give him back to her. Not long after that was when Luna was adopted. Their owner eventually moved out of state, leaving them behind with family. They did not want the dogs. Kokie and Luna were filthy dirty with fly bitten dirty ears that were caked with dried blood. Both had ear infections. It was quite obvious that no one cared about them. With a neighbors help, they both came to CCR.

Luckily, they tested as heartworm negative. Kokie is now on flea/tick and heartworm prevention and a good food diet. His fly bitten ears have been treated. He had infections in both ears so he is on medicine. He is a sweet, friendly dog who deserves a great home environment and someone to love him. He is dog social, people friendly and child friendly with children 10 and older. He is pretty good on a leash and rides ok in a car. He will do well in the house if you let him out often enough but he still might need a bit of house training help due to being kept outside. He will need your patience and understanding on some things due to his past. He needs a secure, fenced yard area to play in before coming back inside to be with you. He would love a forever home with someone who will care for him properly. He will do best with someone who can give him lots of attention, love, keep him safe in the house and give him the wonderful home life that he deserves. He will be a great best friend and would love quality time with you as your indoor companion. He will only be adopted out to a home with a secure fenced yard to keep him safe and happy. You will need to keep an eye on him outside to make sure he stays safe due to his past being so unstable. He will be a great best friend and wonderful companion for you to love. This dog will be a nice addition to your family.

Kokie's Adoption fee is: $350.
