Ferguson and Riley are a bonded pair and must be adopted together. Both are child friendly with 7 plus year old children.
Meet Ferguson, a smaller medium sized reddish blonde cocker spaniel boy about 3 to 4 years old with just a hint of mix. He came to rescue with 2 other cocker boys thought to be his brothers from a local shelter. All 3 of them were together alone and running around loose. They got picked up as strays by NC Animal Control. When no owner came looking for them the staff asked for rescue help because all 3 tested as strong heartworm positive.
On the first vet visit we learned that this boy had several neglected health issues in addition to being heartworm positive. He was badly matted, filthy dirty, with skin issues and an ear infection. He was also covered with ticks and fleas and had hooks and whipworms. These issues have been treated and his heartworm treatment was done with a good recovery. When we picked him up after his vet visit, we noticed that he was having problems walking. Turns out, he had a slight neck issue that required medicine. He recovered well. Days later, all 3 of the boys developed a horrible case of respiratory infection. They were put on medicines to get well. He's been neutered and he had a dental. Now he is ready to find a home. It seems that someone must have loved him because he is gentle, very loving and just a sweet boy. He loves attention and being loved by his human. We learned that he is child friendly with children 7 and older. Riley is his best bud and they are very bonded. He needs to stay with Riley as his seeing eye companion. Riley has eye issues known as Progressive Retinal Atrophy and will eventually go totally blind. Our vet recommends that we adopt them out together to make getting a new home an easier transition for Riley. See Riley's bio.
